Now that Spring is upon us, we can finally look forward to some
warmth and sunshine. Without the feeling of constant darkness, it
might seem like you have more time during the day to get on with
those pesky tasks you’ve been avoiding.
Avoid them no more, and work through this list of heating and
plumbing tasks you should be considering in order to keep your
home in good shape for the foreseeable future. A little work now can
go a long way, and acting now can often prevent the need for more
severe work later down the road if left alone.

Service your Boiler
One of the first things you should consider this spring is to have your
boiler serviced. This is a great example of a task that you don’t want
to leave until it’s too late. Whilst you might not require any central
heating at this current time, there’s nothing worse than having issues
with your boiler when you need it most. Having your boiler serviced
now will mean any potential issues will already have been addressed
and fixed come those cold Winter months.

Consider a Boiler Replacement
Following on from the previous tip, you might find that this is the
best time for you to take the leap and replace your boiler. If you
know your boiler is coming to the end of its life, why not have a new
one installed before we reach the winter months when you will need
your central heating. By this time demand will be high and you might
find it much more difficult to get your boiler replaced when you need
it most.
Upgrade your Bathroom
Similarly, to with having your boiler replaced, Spring can often be the
most suitable time to have any new features installed in your
bathroom. Around this time, it is much easier to get hold of a
plumber to do a job for you, and you can also get great deals in the
spring sales for a new shower or bathroom upgrade.

Power Flush your Piping
One of those tasks that just needs to be done to ensure your central
heating system continues to work efficiently and effectively. If you
avoid power flushing your pipes for too long, you may find that the
water from your boiler becomes contaminated. This can lead to
radiators losing their heat and poor central heating system
circulation. Ultimately these problems will leave you with more bills
to pay and result in a higher overall cost than just getting the power
flushing done in the first place.

Install a Smart Thermostat
Smart Thermostats are a great way of reducing the cost of your
heating bills each month. These thermostats allow you to connect
your heating system to the internet, making it easier for you to
change the temperature or switch off your heating via your phone or
computer.

Clear your drains
Often you’ll find during the Winter months that your outdoor drains
can become blocked with fallen leaves and debris. With more hours
of light and sunshine, Spring can be the perfect time to clear out your
drains and free them of any debris that may be blocking them or
giving off a bad smell.

Have your Gas Fire Serviced
Now may be the perfect time to consider servicing your gas fire.
After using it heavily throughout the Winter months, your gas fire
may be in need of some work done to it. Rather than wait until you
next need to use it, when demand for heating engineers will be high,
you might be better off having your gas fire serviced now in the
Spring time. This way you will find it much easier to get an
appointment time that works for you.

Run your Outdoor Taps
Often over the cold, frosty Winter months outdoor taps and pipes
can become frozen and in some extreme cases can begin to crack
which can lead to leaks. It is always a good idea to run some water
through the pipes to check them out for any issues, so that they are
in good condition for use over the warmer months to come.
