Most people spend their day in a seated position. After all, that’s most office jobs so it’s not
unusual to be spending most of our days in a seated position. That said, we’ll look at the best
self-defense techniques from a seated position.
For some folks, it can be difficult to think of any self-defense techniques from a seated
position. But no worries, it can be done.
Firstly, we’ve repeatedly explained the importance of awareness for self-defense in many of
our videos. It’s crucial for you to always be aware of your surroundings. That can prevent a
lot of troubles.
Awareness; a crucial asset for your personal protection
Therefore, if you see someone coming near you with an intent to fight, you must right away
angle your body towards them so you’re facing them.
This is the first and most important rule for a self-defense technique in a seated position.
Why? Because the last thing you want is turning your back towards your attacker.

You won’t be able to see them coming and you don’t know how or what they will use as an
attack mechanism. Therefore, it’s important to be facing them at all costs.
Angle your body, and be ready to fight back
Try and angle your body off the chair facing your attacker. You also want to be aware of your
footwork. That way, you are ready to strike when they come near you.
If your attacker goes to fight you, you have to be prepared right away to strike. It’s crucial for
you to be the first one to strike. This will give you an advantage and a better chance of
getting away. Especially if your attacker is bigger than you.

Obviously, the best technique is if you see someone coming near you with an intent to attack
you, get up from your seated position without giving them the impression that you are aware
of them.
