Tips to Find the Best Locksmith
Hero Locksmith
1. Ask friends and family
We have most trust in
recommendations from
people we know. A genuine
local locksmith will work
hard to build up a good
reputation in their local
area as they understand
that this will help their
business grow.
2. Search for reviews
Check out online reviews on
Google, Facebook, Yelp etc.
It is easy to spot locksmiths
who have a high number of
5* reviews as well as those
that have none (or few). You
can also get a feel for the
type of person who will
arrive at your door, which
can be reassuring.
3. Check accreditations
There is currently no
government based licensing
of the ‘locksmithing’
industry, so anyone can call
themselves a locksmith.
Therefore check if the
locksmith is on any approved
trade lists e.g. Trusted
Trader, Which? Trusted
Trader etc.
4. Check they are local
National locksmiths often appear to be
local but when you call, connect you to
a call centre in another city. They then
subcontract the job to a locksmith in
your area. This means they usually cost
a lot more, as the fee they charge has
to cover both the work of the
locksmith and the cost of the call
centre! You also have no idea how
competent the locksmith you get is.
5. Check they have Insurance
Always check that
they have public
liability insurance to
cover costs in the
unlikely event that
they cause damage to
your property.
6. Listen carefully
A good locksmith will ask
relevant questions when you
call. They will have seen just
about every type of lock
problem, many, many times
before and by asking the
right questions can usually
figure out the problem and
give you an accurate quote
over the phone.
7. Get a few quotes
When looking for an
emergency locksmith, always
get more than one quote.
Watch out for dodgy
locksmiths that give you a
really low estimate over the
phone and add lots of extras
when they arrive. Always ask
if the quote includes call out
fees, labour, parts, VAT or
any other surcharges.
