What is the Internet of Things

World globalization has affected many aspects of human life.
Particular attention should be paid to the breakthrough in the field of
technological progress, in particular in the field of the Internet of
Things (in the English interpretation of the Internet of Things - IoT).
This is a complex concept that includes several components, namely:

o machines that are in the network and interact with each other;
o a method of connecting M2M (machine to machine) without
human intervention;
o A large amount of data generated by devices.

All collected data is amenable to detailed
analysis, which increases the level of user
comfort and in addition, it becomes possible to
make proper business decisions.

In simple words, the Internet of Things refers
to anything (object, device) that can connect
to a wireless network. If earlier the main way to connect was Wi-Fi,
today different types of network platforms are becoming increasingly
popular, in particular 5G. They guarantee the processing of a huge
amount of data, while providing high speed and reliability.

boards and other equipment.

Areas of application of the Internet of Things

The scope of application is huge and every year there are more and
more industries where the Internet of Things is simply indispensable.
Most often, innovative technologies are used in such areas:

o Agrarian sector. The use of special sensors in the ground allows
you to monitor the level of moisture, the condition of the soil, as
well as timely apply fertilizers and other useful trace elements;
o Logistics. Logistics companies can track the route of their
vehicles, control the loading/unloading process, etc.
o Smart home. IoT independently tracks the amount of energy
spent and independently takes all the necessary readings. Users
have the ability to remotely monitor the air temperature in the
house, humidity level and adjust these indicators (using a
mobile application).
o Medicine. Connecting medical devices to the Internet greatly
simplifies the life of doctors and significantly improves the
quality of services provided to patients.
o Safety system. In the modern world, security and video
surveillance systems are becoming an integral part of life.
Surveillance cameras with facial recognition are also an integral
part of the Internet of Things.
o Retail. Thanks to IoT, large retail chains have the opportunity to
recognize, analyze the emotions of buyers, their behavior and
reaction to different groups of goods.

The Internet of Things is becoming an indispensable phenomenon in
urban life. Modern megacities and small towns strive to make the life
of the local population as comfortable as possible and here it is the
IoT that comes to the rescue.

IoT Security Challenges

The number of people connected to ioT is growing rapidly, and at the
same time the risks that are directly or indirectly related to security
issues are increasing. The main security problems of the Internet of
Things lie in such components:

o Lack of full testing. This is due to the fact that many developers
strive to bring their products to market as quickly as possible,
and issues related to security fade into the background. But
gradually, manufacturers come to the realization that the safety
of the product should be in the first place, and only then the
material benefit and other components.
o Malware. Increasingly, users are faced with ransomware that
can block access to devices, and criminals demand a material
reward for unlocking it;
o Data privacy concerns. Internet of Things devices operate with a
huge amount of user data. Some users recklessly do not read
the terms of the user agreement, but simply accept them and
thereby expose themselves to serious danger;

This is not a complete list of problems associated with the security of
the Internet of Things. It is impossible not to note the fact that many
families have access to five or more connected devices and if one of
them is configured incorrectly, then the entire home network is at
risk.
