Graffiti Designs From NYC’s East Village
Printed On T-Shirts: Street Art Apparel
A new line of NYC Graffiti T-shirts from artist Sarah James
features fresh urban art with images taken straight from the city's
streets.
This fifth shirt from James’ line features
Sarasvati, the Hindu Goddess of
knowledge, music, arts, and wisdom. The
long-sleeve tee is available in several
sizes and colors.
On the shirt, the goddess is seated,
playing a stringed instrument, imitating
the rhythm and harmony of the universe.
She wears a garland representing the
power of meditation.
The graphic tee makes a thoughtful wardrobe addition for those bored by
cookie-cutter tees from souvenir shops and big box stores.
Roughly 3% of NYC residents embrace the Hindu faith, making it the city's fourth-
largest religion. But intricate Hindu art gives its images broader appeal among the
population.
Street art has been part of the city's culture for more than a century. The genre
graduated from thought-provoking protest statements to artistic illustrations during the
1980s.
It’s this creative spirit that Sarah James, a Brooklyn native,
aims to capture in her work.
