The Parks & Recreation Department operates numerous parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and recreation centers. The department also provides programs, events, and activities to Hillsborough County residents year-round.

WELCOME/CALL TO ORDER
a. This meeting was called to order at 12:02 p.m. by Anthony Sanchez.
b. Thank you to the Friends of the County Parks for providing lunch today.
II.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
None
III.
PRESENTATIONS
a. Sponsorship Update
i. Rick Valdez gave an update that Dana McDonald’s position was offered and he’s
waiting for final confirmation.
b. AED Update
i. James Crouch stated that the Department procured 20 AEDs last month through
a special procurement add-on to a Public Works contract that was in place.
c. ELAPP Acquisition Update
i. Forest Turbiville shared the latest updates on the Ag-Mart parcel.
ii. Jack Berlin stated that the Friends of the County Parks or this Board will be there
to offer support if ELAPP needs to request more funding.
iii. Discussion ensued about a person involved in the real estate process who is
retiring and how this will affect the program.
d. State Road 56 Extension
i. Mr. Turbiville shared that the public meeting is still postponed.
e. USF RFI- Forest Preserve
i. Mr. Turbiville shared that they had a meeting on Monday of the ELAPP General
Committee and the USF Forest Preserve Property was very highly ranked.

ii. Joe Guidry suggested contacting the interim USF president and asked if the
Board should send a letter.
iii. Discussion ensued regarding Board contacts and all Board members will attempt
to reach out and will send updates to Alison Hughes to share with the Board.
f. Park Vendors and Friends Agreement Update
i. Mr. Valdez shared that the agreement is still in review and should be ready by
the end of the year.
ii. Mr. Berlin requested that we get the new agreement to Friends by November
because they do not meet in December.
g. FY22 New Capital Park Projects
i. Mr. Turbiville and Jason Mackenzie shared highlights for their Departments.
ACTION ITEM- Alison Hughes will send these documents to the Board.
h. Board Positions
i. Mr. Sanchez contacted Commissioner Myers again and it waiting to hear back.
ii. All Board positions expire at the same time, so Mr. Sanchez plans to try and
extend at least three of the terms.
i. November 18 Meeting
i. The Board agreed to set the location as All People’s Life Center. Closer to the
meeting, Ms. Hughes will send out an email to determine if the meeting will be
in-person or hybrid.
ACTION ITEM- Alison Hughes will send out an email to determine the meeting
format two weeks before the meeting.
IV.
BOARD ACTION
a. Approve minutes from the August 26, 2021 meeting.
Motion: Joe Guidry, Jr. made a motion approving the August 26, 2021 meeting minutes and
the motion was seconded by Jack Berlin. The motion was passed with no opposing
members.

COMMUNICATIONS, ACTIVITIES, OR STAFF MEMBER COMMENTS
a. Mr. Valdez shared that the Department successfully achieved CAPRA re-accreditation.

b. Adrienne Rouse shared information about the Hiking Spree kickoff, new positions,
Active Life Games, and Mango Ribbon cutting.
c. Mr. Guidry shared information about the Florida Birding Festival.
ACTION ITEM- Alison Hughes will share these invites.
d. Greg Brown shared updates about new positions.

a. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 1:01 p.m.
