Each summer, female diamondback terrapins embark on a journey in search of nesting habitat along the Jekyll Island Causeway. As a result, many encounter the busy roadway while trying to lay their eggs. Every year, hundreds of these adult female terrapins are struck by automobiles. Previous research predicts this level of mortality will lead to population declines unless further conservation and management actions are taken.

In partnership with the Jekyll Island Foundation, I created a video to share the journey of the terrapin and raise awareness of the conservation issues they are facing. I hope that after watching you are left with an understanding of the issue and a desire to help solve this problem. - David Zailo
