Friends of the County Parks & Recreation Inc
Friends of the County Parks is a 501-3c (EN#59-3088915) organization established in 1988 to promote
financial and community support for our parks and recreation facilities throughout Hillsborough County.
The organization is made up of 12 volunteers who see the value of having a healthy Parks and
Recreation system for our community.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide funds to Parks and Recreation Department that maintain, improve, and
enhance services for youth, special needs and seniors through our community.
Meetings:
The Friends Board meets monthly on the first Thursday of each month at 7pm with the exception of July,
August and December. The Annual Board Meeting is held on the first Thursday in November.
Upcoming Major Events:
2017 Roy Wilcox and Friends Golf Tournament – October 28th @ Summerfield Crossing Golf and
Country Club - $75 per player – 1 pm shotgun start. Sponsorship opportunities available. All proceeds
benefit Paralympic Sport Tampa Bay and Friends of the County Parks.
Terrapin Project- This is an ongoing project to raise funds to build a terrapin exhibit at Upper Tampa Bay
Park. This project will provide a habitat for the terrapin turtles as well as provide educational
opportunities for youth and adults.
2017 Tampa Bay Senior Games are held the first 3 weeks in October. $30 per player for those 50 year
and up. Participate in a variety of sports and social events. Registration fee includes a t-shirt and goodie
bag. Golf is the only event that requires an extra fee of $25. Go to

Scholarships for After-School and Summer Camps—Friends provides scholarships for those that qualify
to attend Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation After-School Program and Summer Camps.
Movies in the Park are usually held in October at Ruskin (Trunk or Treat) and December at Northdale
(Holidays). A great family activity, so stay tuned for more information on these great events.
Holiday in the Park @ Apollo Beach held in December every year. Come out for a free family fun event
– inflatables, entertainment, food and of course what would a holiday celebration without a visit from
Santa himself. All kids 10 and under receive a toy.
