There are many pirate-themed arts
that kids can do at home. Most are
easy to make and all the materials
needed are already in your home.
Pirate crafts are also a fun way to
learn. You can let your little ones do
these by themselves, but make sure
you’re there to supervise in case they
need to use scissors or a glue gun.
Here are three fun but easy pirate arts
and crafts they can create:
Old newspaper or any sheet of
paper
Construction paper
Marker
Scissors
Glue
Long feather
Pirate Hat
We’re off to a great start, matey! With
this one, your kids will feel like
Captain Hook from Peter Pan. All you
have to prepare are the following:
Unfold the piece of newspaper and
lay it flat in front of you.
Fold
the newspaper
in half
horizontally. Make sure that the
fold is even so that you’ll have a
perfect pirate hat. You can run your
finger along the fold to crease it
properly.
Directions:
1.
2.
3. Get one of the top corners and bring
it to the center. Do the same thing with
the other corner. After that, you should
have two triangles. You can secure it
with tape to stop it from unfolding.
4. You’ll be left with two bottom flaps.
Take one bottom flap and fold it on the
bottom of the triangle you made. You
can also secure this with tape.
5. Turn it over and take the other
bottom flap and do the same. Now, you
have the finished pirate hat.
6. Lastly, decorate the hat with
markers and construction paper. You
can help your kids cut any pattern
they want. You can even glue the
feather on the side to make it more
unique.
Paper cup
Cardboard box
Glue
Aluminum foil
Paint
Captain Hook’s Hook
Aaaarrrrgggghhh! This is one of those
pirate activities that kids always enjoy
doing. It is also a perfect match for the
pirate hat. For this one, you’ll have to
prepare the following materials:
First, fold the cardboard in half.
After that, draw a hook. It can be as
big you want. Cut the hooks.
Next, glue the two cardboard hooks
together. Do not glue the bottom
end (approximately 1 inch of the
hook).
Directions:
1.
2.
3. Next, fold the bottom ends of the
hook outward. This will serve as the
attachment to the paper cup.
4. Cover the hook with aluminum foil
to make it look silver and shiny. After
that, glue the ends of the hook to the
bottom of the paper cup.
5. You can put little holes in the cup to
prevent your hands from sweating.
6. Lastly, let your kids use the paint to
decorate the cup to their liking.
Scissors
Cardboard box
Hot glue
Pencil
Paint
Wooden skewers
A sheet of white paper
Cardboard Box Pirate Ship
Blimey! This pirate ship arts and crafts
project is sure to make your kids feel
like a true swashbuckling pirate! A
great captain needs a gorgeous pirate
ship. Here’s what you’ll need to make
your own:
e
Cut three strips of cardboard of the
same size. For a medium-sized
pirate ship, you can follow the
standard measurement
of
10
inches long and 3 inches wide.
Using a pencil, draw a curve on one
strip of the cardboard. This will
serve as the boat’s hull. The curve
should begin in one corner of the
strip to the other side.
Directions:
1.
2.
3. Use the strip with the drawn curve
as a pattern. Get another cardboard
strip, put it under the other one. Get
your scissors and cut the two strips of
cardboard according to your markings.
Do the same on the other end.
4. Now that you have the two sides of
the ship, your kids can paint them.
You can instruct them to paint
windows and vertical black lines to
create the illusion that the pirate ship
is made of wood.
5. After
that, attach the curved
cardboard strips to your remaining
cardboard strip using hot glue. The
curved strips will serve as the sides of
the boat while the third strip is the
bottom.
6. Get three wooden skewers. You can
cut a third on each skewer if it’s too
long. This will serve as the mast of
your ship. Align it vertically in the
middle of your boat. You can attach it
to the bottom of your ship using hot
glue.
7. Using two pieces of the skewer you
cut earlier, glue them on the front end
and back end of your ship. This will
serve as the prow and stern.
8. Lastly, cut three white triangles and
glue them to your masts. These will
serve as the sails of your pirate ship.
9. Let your kids enjoy and channel
their inner pirate!
