The Friends of the County Parks, established in 1988, is a group of concerned citizens joining together to promote financial and community support to the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation, and Conservation Department. They develop public awareness of recreation as an important part of day-to-day life. 

Funds provided by The Friends of the County Parks are used as a supplement to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department budget and does not replace allocated tax dollars. These additional funds helps maintain, improve, and enhance services provided by the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department. The Friends of the County Parks enjoys a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit exemption status.

Friends of the County Parks meetings are held first Thursday of each month. For more information please call the administrative office at 813-744-5595.

1.​
       ​
 Purchase of 4 – 15 passenger vans for recreation sites to use to transport youth, teens 
and seniors to events.  ($60,000) 
 
2.​
       ​Adopt a Camper – provide scholarships for youth ages 5 and up to attend after­school 
program and summer camps for qualified participants. 
 
3.​
       ​Holiday in the Park – Purchased the 50 Ft Christmas Tree for Joe Chillura Park.  For 5 
years sponsored the Holiday in the Park on the first Thursday after Thanksgiving – tree lighting, 
games for kids, singing and dancing acts on the stage, and free hotdogs, chips, and hot 
chocolate for everyone.  Photos with Santa and Ms. Claus.

       ​Paralympic Sports of Tampa Bay – Sponsor of fundraisers to support travel, training, and 
participation in sporting events for the physically disabled.

       ​Scare Trail @ Lake Park – Held a Scare Trail Fundraiser every October for about 10 years. 
Trail consisted of scary scenes throughout the park.  Participants walked thru the trail to view 
the scenes.  Also provided a hay ride during the event.
