CCHR Urges Overhaul to End Psychiatric Drug and
Device Harms
CCHR International urges reforms of mental health
drug and device aproovals to end conflicts of interest
and better protect patients from harmful drugs and
devices.
CCHR highlights the urgent need
for reform, citing its failure to ban
a painful electroshock device
used on autistic and intellectually
disabled students despite known
risks.
In 2012, a UN expert called shock devices torture, yet ECT is still used on kids and others
without consent, despite no proven safety or efficacy in clinical trials.
CCHR warns FDA-approved psychedelics like
psilocybin may increase violence, noting the
hallucinogen's "Breakthrough Therapy" status
despite abuse and psychoactive risks.
The U.S. faces rising violence, including shootings linked
to psychiatric drug use. If approved, psychedelics could
worsen this.
Fluoxetine, an SSRI antidepressant approved in 1987, reached $1 billion in sales by 1991, with 3.5 million
users. CCHR exposed its links to suicide, homicide, and violence.
