edocr has so many users and so many uses, and so few really ever
push our potential, which makes us sad. This blog post will hopefully
help more of you get more out of edocr, and that would be awesome
news to us! (many of these tips require a Premium Account)
So, please read on, and we welcome questions or comments at any
time.
SEO - This is an easy one.
Share any and all documents
for free, but to index your
documents via search bots for
SEO and linkbacks, you need to
have a Premium account. At 83
cents per month for up to 100
document posts, this is a
no-brainer.
Profile - Your edocr profile is discoverable, so use that space wisely.
Some 'about' information, and lots of ways to be contacted. Don't
waste that important freebie! Use the space in your profile. Add
contact info for phone, address, website, email, Whatsapp, Linkedin,
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and/or Paypal.
Page Sidebar - More free space! When uploading a document, make
sure to fill out the information section as this text mixes with your post
when the search bots crawl the page. This is an excellent way to take
a generic article of interest, place it on edocr, and add information
about you or your company to grab all the attention for yourself.
Include relevant links here, as they will show first and are grabbed first
by bots, especially on mobile. (see example below)
Categories - Make sure you select an appropriate category for each of
your posts as the categories become static landing pages that add to
the rank of your document.
Education / Charity Uses - Grab a free account by filling out this
form online! We love our educational and charity users!
Load from URL - Store on googledrive, dropbox or anywhere you
want if the storage provides you a URL. Available as an API call too.
Page breaks on vertical scroll documents - Set your paper to legal
size 8.5 x 14 or at 8.5 x 22 (or some longer size than 8.5 x 11) to cut
down on page breaks when viewing on edocr. They will still save as
PDF ok, but avoid this if you plan to show with horizontal scroll or as
slideshow, or if the intent is to print.
PDF Compression - The smaller the file, the faster the page load,
which affects user experience and Google ranking. Drop your PDFs
here for lossless compression and see how much file size you can
save: Accusoft PDF Compression (NOTE: PDFs can be made in all kinds
of strange ways and occasionally the compression can mess up, so
always visually check before use.)
Sign up Followers! - Next to every document you post is an embed
button. This allows you to place a viewer on your webpage or blog, but
also allows you to create a 'Follow' button or URL string for viewers to
follow your entire profile, or just follow one of your collections. Once
someone follows you, we verify their email, and then they will get an
email anytime you upload or edit a document. The button html looks
like this:
style="text-align: center; font-size: .8em;">
but add 'profile' to the document GUID, (shown above) and the string
effectively means 'follow the owner of this document'.
So, to follow edocr's Profile:
https://www.edocr.com/follow/mwjk2rxa/profile
Now add this to your own sites and be followed!
Private Collections and/or documents - edocr is great for sharing
documents of any format without having to send an attachment or the
need to have the right viewer on your device, but edocr is also a great
way to store and share documents that only you or a chosen few have
access to. Read more here.
Tags / Hashtags - Premium users of edocr can enrich their search
terms by placing custom tags on the document post page, which we
place at the top of the text to be indexed by google. Read more here.
GoogleDocs for quick website editing - This document is an 8.5 x
14 googledoc so that when we think of something to change or add,
we quickly can then refresh on edocr to show from the same URL, or
website iFrame (more info).
Embed edocr documents on your website or blog - Embed PDF,
DOC/DOCX, XLS, PPT, TIFF and more on your site. Nothing could be
easier!
Disable ads on your page - This one is soooo easy. Go into your
account settings and switch off!
URL Shortener - All edocr URLs have a secret, but let us let you in on
it. Edocr dot com = Edo dot cr! Therefore:
https://www.edocr.com/v/ewzqqwmv/edocr/Easy-Sharing equals
https://edo.cr/v/ewzqqwmv
That's right, all edocr URLs have a shortened URL built in.
Just use https://edo.cr/v/(8 digit document ID)
Templates - Want Docs to know what collection they go in, with the
same description and logo/image? Try creating and saving a Template
and you will be all set.
