About ATO Duke
Duke University, ATO Xi Chapter - Founded 1872
To bind men together in a brotherhood based upon eternal and immutable principles, with a bond as strong as right itself and as lasting as humanity ; to know no North, no South, no East, no West, but to know man as man, to teach that true men the world over should stand together. Otis Allan Glazebrook, 1880.
Alpha Tau Omega began as an idea in the mind of a young Civil War veteran who wanted peace and reconciliation. His name was Otis Allan Glazebrook. His people were defeated, many of their cities burned, much of their countryside ravaged. But Glazebrook, who had helped bury the dead of both sides, believed in a better future. He saw the bitterness and hatred that followed the silencing of the guns and knew that a true peace would come not from force of law, but rather from with the hearts of men who were willing to work to rekindle a spirit of brotherly love.
Spring, 2018 | ATO Xi Chapter
March
A Day for Doh Boy
An Opening Word
Alumni of the Xi Chapter- my name is Josh Engel and I
am the current alumni chair. The main goal of this
newsletter is to share with you the philanthropy event we
are hosting on March 30th to honor Michael Doherty, our
brother whom we lost this past summer; however, I am
glad to be able to update you all about the great fall
semester and rush we enjoyed. We continued our
academic success this past fall, maintaining our spot as
the ATO chapter with the highest overall grade point
average. We also had tremendous success in establishing
the Michael Doherty Memorial Endowment Fund
Scholarship through the efforts of the chapter as a whole
and individual fundraising campaigns, including the
money that myself and Brother Forrest Pratson raised
through our marathon fundraiser. This current semester,
our rush chairs did an incredible job in executing an
engaging and thorough rush process this past January. We
currently have a pledge class of 29 diverse and involved
young men that we are very proud of.
We hope to see you at A Day for Doh Boy or Alumni
Weekend this coming month!
We hope to see you for alumni weekend, April 13-15! Please stop by Craven U&T on West Campus, and feel free to contact
me with any questions at jse15@duke.edu. We appreciate any and all donations! If 2018 has been good to you and you
would like to support our chapter, please write checks to the ATO Xi Foundation and mail them to:

Event Details
As many of you know, our chapter was rocked this past
summer with the news of Mike Doherty's death. While we
have already surpassed our initial goals with the Michael
Doherty Memorial Endowment Fund and have raised over
$120,000, we would like to do more to reflect just how much
he meant to our chapter. We have partnered with the Duke
Gardens to set up a permanent stone bench memorial in the
gardens to further memorialize Mike at Duke. A Day for Doh
Boy seeks to make this memorial a reality. On March 30th, we
will be hosting a barbecue on our quad from 3:30 to 5:00 pm,
followed by the main event at Triangle Sportsplex, the ice
skating rink where Mike played hockey at Duke, from 5:00 to
7:30 pm to celebrate the many ways Mike touched our lives.
Activities will include ice skating, curling and raffles. If you
cannot make the event but would still like to contribute to the
memorial, you can donate directly here:
